Dry skin in winters ? Go natural to keep it moisturized

Dry skin is the most common winter problem . Apart from weather , other reasons contributing to this condition are bathing in warm water often ,keeping yourself in warm conditions indoor , too much exposure to dry air or poor intake of water .

Dry skin causes irritation ,itching and sometimes discomfort from skin tightness . When left untreated it give severe , long term skin problems. The remedies listed here shall help , if not then please consult your doctor.

Remedies to keep your skin hydrated :

  1. Oil (sesame /baby oil )

Before bathing apply some til / sesame oil to your body . This can be done 30 minutes to 1 hour before bathing or a night before sleeping .This will protect your body from dryness under shower. For best results, apply oil to your skin immediately after bathing. You can also use baby oil for best results . Pat your skin dry with a towel, but allow some moisture to remain on the surface. Apply oil generously, trapping moisture in and preventing your skin from drying out too quickly.


  1. Aloe vera gel

Aloe vera gel has soothing, healing and moisturising properties .  It works wonders on flaky skin, as it gently sloughs away the top layer of dead skin cells. Apply a thin layer of 100 percent pure aloe vera gel to affected areas . Keep it on for 20-30 minutes or till it dries completely. If you feel sticky or uncomfortable after that , wash it with plain water. Apply this gel twice a day for best results .


  1. Honey

Honey tightens, softens, nourishes and moisturizes dry skin. Applying pure honey directly to extremely dry skin with a little massage for about 2 minutes to help it completely penetrate the skin, increases circulation at the site, and encourages deeper moisturizing action. Rinse well with warm water, and apply moisturizer afterward. Repeat the honey treatment at least once a day to help soothe your dry skin.

Quick Tip : After taking bath , apply moisturizer when your skin is little wet . That is instead of completely patting your skin dry after shower , leave it on with little water droplets and then apply a moisturizer . This will give you better results than applying plain moisturizer as the water content gives more nourishment , help absorb moisturizer better and lock the moisture inside the pores . Hence , giving you moisturization for longer hours .

  1. Honey + olive oil + lemon

Mix a spoonful of honey with a spoonful of olive oil and squeeze a lemon juice (a natural skin brightener). Apply this lotion to dry areas and let sit for 20 minutes. Wipe off with a warm washcloth.


  1. Milk

Milk has anti-inflammatory and soothing properties that help get rid of dry and itchy skin. It also contains which exfoliates dead skin cells and increases the skin’s ability to retain moisture. It is known for Lightening complexion naturally.

Soak a washcloth in cold milk and put the cloth on your dry skin for 10-20 minutes. Gently wash off the milk with another cloth soaked in lukewarm water. This way this natural moisturizer will remain on your skin. Do this every day for best results.

Add a few drops of rose water to four tablespoons of milk. Apply this solution all over the body and Leave it on for 20 minutes nd then go for a bath with cold water.
